City of Moore Partners with Nextdoor
Partnership Will Enable City of Moore to Increase Community Engagement for Emergency Preparedness
The City of Moore announced on March, 10 2015 a partnership with Nextdoor (www.nextdoor.com), the free and private social network for neighborhoods, to build stronger, safer communities with the help of residents.
This integration with Nextdoor will enable the City of Moore to communicate online with Moore neighborhoods. Residents and the City of Moore will be able to work together to better prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergency situations.
“Having the ability to easily communicate with residents is extremely vital to increasing the community's overall safety and preparedness,” said City Manager Steve Eddy. “With Nextdoor, we can make sure more residents know how to help each other before, during, and after emergency situations, which makes our community even more resilient.”
With Nextdoor, Moore residents can create private neighborhood websites to share information, including neighborhood public safety issues, community events and activities, local services, and even lost pets.
The City of Moore will be able to share helpful information with Nextdoor members, such as disaster preparedness tips, recovery and response locations and options, and details about educational programs to Nextdoor websites within Moore. However, the City of Moore will not be able to access residents’ websites, contact information, or content.
Nextdoor is free for residents and the City of Moore. Each Moore neighborhood has its own private Nextdoor neighborhood website, accessible only to residents of that neighborhood. Neighborhoods establish and self-manage their own Nextdoor website. All members must verify that they live within the neighborhood before joining Nextdoor. Information shared on Nextdoor is password protected and cannot be accessed by Google or other search engines.
Those interested in joining their neighborhood’s Nextdoor website can visit www.nextdoor.com and enter their address. If residents have questions about their Nextdoor website, please visit help.nextdoor.com.
