Emergency
Management |
|
Our Emergency Management staff research and develop response plans for the events occurring prior to, during, and after a disaster or large emergency, as well as providing severe weather spotting services. Years ago, as "Civil Defense", our primary focus was the protection of the civilian population during time of war. Today we take a far more comprehensive, all-hazards approach to planning and managing emergency events resulting from severe weather, transportation accidents, hazardous materials releases, floods, earthquakes, wildfire, terrorism and civil disorder, as well as warfare. |

Severe Weather Info
1. The City
has no public weather shelters.
Shelter in your home. If you
live in a mobile home or upstairs
apartment, make arrangements to go
elsewhere prior to storm arrival.
We have no desire
to place our residents into their
cars during storms!
There are no
public buildings in Moore capable of
providing better shelter than you
can get in your home.
Schools are not
opened as weather shelters (see
above).
2. Our
sirens test themselves (quietly!)
every morning at 5am, and report the
results directly to our EOC via
radio. Audible tests for the
public are conducted on Saturdays at
noon when the weather is good.
Occasionally we
decide not to test ours on Saturdays
due to weather. However, the
City of Oklahoma City may still test
theirs, some of which can be heard
in Moore.
3. We
program NOAA Weather/All-Hazards
Radios for free! Call us at
793-4477 to make an appointment!
4. If you'd
like the codes to program your
weather radio yourself:
- Frequency:
Ch. 1, 162.400 mhz
- Cleveland Co:
040027
- McClain Co:
040087
- Oklahoma Co:
040109

counties that the National Weather
Service issues watches and warnings
for, along with a local area map so
you can know when the weather is
getting close. The map also
contains some basic severe weather
safety information.

EM volunteer
agreements will (hopefully) be
distributed at the next REACT
meetings. These will require
minimum training standards
(including IS-100, IS-700, Spotter),
and will outline the standards for
provision and use of ID badges and
800 mhz system radios.
|
Spotter training was conducted
on Wednesday, February
21st at the National Weather Center
in Norman. If you missed, other spotter training
sessions can be found
here.
|
The spotter location map
can be
downloaded here. All
locations are the same as in the
past, it's just on a newer map.
|
State EM offers free
weather paging, here's the
form to sign-up.
