Moore, named after a Santa Fe railroad employee, began as a small town on the Oklahoma prairie. Today, we are one of the fastest growing communities in the Oklahoma City area. We pride ourselves on being a large city, population of over 51,000, with that small town feel. A place where neighbors care about neighbors and visitors are always welcome.
Construction of new retail and restaurant businesses is at an all-time high. Residential construction is booming as well. In 2007, there were 563 single-family permits granted, this is 71% higher than in 2000. There have been several new hotels open in the last few years as well. We are a safe community, with quiet and safe residential neighborhoods. Moore Public Schools is ranked as one of the best school systems in Oklahoma, ranking only second to Edmond in the Metro-area in the 2004 Academic Performance Index. Our central location affords residents easy access to Bricktown, the University of Oklahoma, and downtown Oklahoma City.
Getting Around
Due to Moore’s location there is easy access to I-35, I-44, I-40, and I-240, all of which provide access to major markets and business centers in the United States. Moore is also located with 15 minutes of Will Rogers World Airport as well as a major BNSF freight yard and a main line for the BNSF railway.
Getting Away
Moore also offers exceptional proximity to OKC and Norman, legendary Bricktown, and the University of Oklahoma. Moore itself is a sport and recreational destination with numerous high school athletic events held at Moore High School. Stanley Draper Lake offers water recreation and boating activities for the entire family. Endless opportunities for sporting and recreational activities are held at Buck Thomas Park. Moore boasts of having Art in the Park, a performing and visual art festival held every year in Buck Thomas Park. There is a great deal to enjoy in Moore!

In 2007, 563 single-family permits were issued in Moore. Since 2000 over 4,000 new homes have been built in Moore. New home values increased at a rate of about 8.4% in 2007. Existing homes, for 2007, were on the market 81 days in Moore.

Moore is unsurpassed in the metro-area. Moore is home to three 18-hole golf courses, 8 neighborhood and community parks and we boast of having one of the lowest crime rates in the metro-area. Of any school system in the Oklahoma City area, Moore Public Schools has the second highest score on the 2007 Academic Performance Index. The average ACT score is 2-points ahead of the state average and 1 point ahead of the national average.
